Piscataway Mbr, Aquia Fm - 128-137 m, Haynesville Core (Paleocene of the United States)

Where: Richmond County, Virginia (38.0° N, 76.7° W: paleocoordinates 38.5° N, 57.9° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Piscataway Member (Aquia Formation), Thanetian (59.2 - 56.0 Ma)

• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHYL From Piscataway Mbr of the Aquia Fm or the Pamunkey Gp. STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: The Piscataway Mbr has an unconformable contact with the underlying Potomac Fm, and with the overlying Paspotansa Mbr of the Aquia Fm. THICKNESS: AGE: Thanetia, based on planktonic foraminiferal and dinoflagellate assemblages. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Between 419 and 449.7 ft (128-137 m) in core.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified, glauconitic, pebbly, phosphatic, shelly/skeletal, silty sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Deposition in low energy environment, low sedimentation, relatively deep water, with firm sandy substrates. Hence, assigned to a Silciclastic - offshore environment. TECTONIC SETTING: No tectonic data reported in text. SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: No sequence stratigraphic data reported in text.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Dark, muddy, glauconitic sand, shell fragments, and pebbles of phosphate and quartz. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, based on photgraphic plates of matrix.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: USGS drilling operation. REPOSITORY: Presumably, material is reposited at USNM or Virginia Museum of Natural History (L. Ward).
