Vaughan et al. loc. 8601 - Arroyo Jerguen (Miocene of Haiti)

Also known as C-11

Where: Haiti (19.0° N, 70.0° W: paleocoordinates 18.9° N, 68.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Cevicos Limestone Formation, Langhian (16.0 - 13.8 Ma)

• AGE ASSIGNMENT: Upper Oligocene according to Vaughan et al. Faunas are meager and correlation is uncertain, but if it is correct deposits of the same age occur in the islands of Anguilla, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Florida, Panama and Trinidad. These deposits are correlated with the Chattian-Aquitanian of Europe. Eames et al. (1962) assigned the Cevicos to the Burdigalian, while Van Den Bold (1974) assigned correlative units in Haiti to the Middle Miocene. Dorreen dated a foraminifera sample from the Cevicos as Middle Miocene, no older than zone N9. The Cevicos Limestone is likely a transitional facies between the Yanigua Formation and Los Haitises Formation, dated to Langhian by Ortega-Ariza et al. (2015). STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: no stratigraphic data provided.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; lithified limestone

• ENVIRONMENTAL DATA: Formation interpreted as shallow inner platform deposits, shoreward of a patch reef system and distal to the marginal marine Yanigua Formation.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: "limestone"

Collection methods: quarrying,

• COLLECTORS: C.W Cooke abd C.P. Ross (April 22, 1919). REPOSITORIES: unknown repository, possibly Geological Survey of the Dominican Republic, or the USGS/USNM.
