Where: Antarctica (64.2° S, 56.7° W: paleocoordinates 63.4° S, 63.8° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• small collection-level geographic resolution
When: Cucullaea I Member (La Meseta Formation), Ypresian (56.0 - 47.8 Ma)
• Most recent studies (Montes et al., 2010), although still in progress, indicate that the lower and middle parts of the La Meseta Formation (Valle de las Focas, Acantilados, Campamento, Cucullaea I and the lower part of Cucullaea II allomembers) were deposited during the early Eocene and sedimentation may have begun as early as late Paleocene.
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: deltaic; mudstone and siltstone
Size class: macrofossils
Preservation: concretion, permineralized
Collected in 2005; reposited in the MACN
• The material studied herein is a collection of 82 conifer woods, out of 120 wood samples (the other 38 samples are angiosperms). They are housed at the Palaeobotanical Collection of the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales, under accession numbers BA Pb 1400 to 14519 (Appendix A).
