Stratigraphy
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: reworked phosphatised rock fragments found in the limestone and the sandstone (Särdal beds); 'based on the presence of Actinocamax ex gr. primus/plenus, can be assigned to the late Cenomanian and/or the A. plenus Zone between the Cenomanian and the Turonian. it is also possible that the Turonian and/or Coniacian may be represented by some rock pieces, but this cannot be verified at present'
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:fine,gray lithified grainstone
Lithology description: 'The derived phosphatised rock fragments consist of fossiliferous grey limestone... the grey limestone is a fine-grained, light-coloured calcarenite with scattered grains of glauconite.'
Environment:open shallow subtidal
Glacial or sequence phase:transgressive
Geology comments: 'a varied and abundant fauna of hexactinellid sponges indicates that the transgression in the late Cenomanian and/or A. plenus Zone involved a rise in the water level of about 100 m.'
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils,microfossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:some macrofossils
Collection methods:field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collection method comments: authors and amateur collections;
Museum repositories: Geological Survey of Sweden (EN), the Mineralogical Museum in Copenhagen (MMH), Geological Institute in Lund (LO)
