Stratigraphy
Formation:Pabellon
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: AGE: Early Late Aptian based on Parahoplites nutfieldensis. Previous estimates from minimum age of the Pabellon Formation are Late arremian to Aptian based on corals and bivalves (Tavera, 1956) and late Barremian based on presence of Agria blumenbachi (Corvalan, 1974). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From uppermost part of the Parabellon Fm.
Lithology and environment
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: No lithology reported in text. LITHIFICATION: Assumed to be lithified based on figured specimens, which are sometimes free of matrix.
Environment:marine indet.
Glacial or sequence phase:regressive
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Shallow-water. SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: Represents a regressive stage at the end of the Early Cretaceous marine sedimentary cycle in the Andean Basin of Chile and Argentina.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,replaced with silica
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Preservation of anatomical detail:poor
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,field collection
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: E. Perez d'Angelo (1965). REPOSITORY: Servico Nacional de Geologia y Mineria, Santiago, Chile.
Taxonomic list comments:COVERAGE: Representative, but not exhaustive, for bivalves and cephalopods. Bryozoans, serpulids and gastropods are mentioned as present, but not specified. NOMENCLATURE: Authoritative publication, nomenclature apppears modern for cephalopoda, although possibly antiquated for bivalvia.
