Time
Period: | Quaternary | Epoch: | Pleistocene |

Age range of interval: | 2.58000 - 0.01170 m.y. ago |
Stratigraphy
Regional section: | Neuwied Basin | ||||
Stratigraphy comments: Date is disputed - either an inter-Saalian glacial (roughly 0.3-0.15Ma), or a Cromerian interglacial of similar age to Voigtstedt and Bilshausen (Early Middle Pleistocene), both correlations based on pollen. The 'brockentuff' is found directly below the archaeological layer, suggesting a correlation with Karlich layer H = Holsteinian (0.3ma). |
Lithology and environment
Lithology description: sand lens in clay-like deposit (interpreted from stratigraphic column, p. 229). |
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation: | anthropogenic |
Size of fossils: | macrofossils |
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection: | archaeological analysis |
Collection method comments: Straight tusked elephant and wild pig are associated with interglacial temperate forest, but at this location there were more open conditions towards the end of an interglacial. |
