Stratigraphy
Regional section:Neuwied Basin
Stratigraphy comments: Date is disputed - either an inter-Saalian glacial (roughly 0.3-0.15Ma), or a Cromerian interglacial of similar age to Voigtstedt and Bilshausen (Early Middle Pleistocene), both correlations based on pollen. The 'brockentuff' is found directly below the archaeological layer, suggesting a correlation with Karlich layer H = Holsteinian (0.3ma).
Lithology and environment
Lithology description: sand lens in clay-like deposit (interpreted from stratigraphic column, p. 229).
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:anthropogenic
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection:archaeological analysis
Collection method comments: Straight tusked elephant and wild pig are associated with interglacial temperate forest, but at this location there were more open conditions towards the end of an interglacial.
