Coordinates: 41.4° North, 0.3° West (view map)
Paleocoordinates:41.6° North, 1.2° West
Basis of coordinate:stated in text
Time
Period:Neogene Epoch:Miocene
Stage:Tortonian 10 m.y. bin:Cenozoic 6
Key time interval:Vallesian
Age range of interval:11.63000 - 8.70000 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Regional section:Duero Basin
Stratigraphy comments: Miocene, MN9-10. There are 5 levels with fossil remains, level X is the highest in the section (approximately 100m above level Y3). However, the earlier large mammal collections are not associated with these divisions, so they have been entered separately.
Lithology and environment
Environment:alluvial fan
Geology comments: A pond system with a little alluvial fan in which most of the bones have been found.
Taphonomy
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Collection method comments: Material from the 1978-1981 excavations is held in the Equipo de Vertebrados del Instituto de Geologia del CSIC, Madrid. Older material is kept at Sabadell Museum.
