Lithology description: "The Combe Martin Slates, comprising slates with three distinctive limestone beds, and subordinate thin sandstones and siltstones...The slates of the sequence are silvery grey, calcareous and commonly silty, the sandstones generally grey, fine grained and seldom thicker than 0.3 m...The Jenny Start Limestone commonly has an oolitic texture...The strata between the Jenny Start Lst and the Combe Martin Beach Lst comprise calcareous slates with thin limestone bands...sandy strata...and well-cleaved grey slates...The distinctive Combe Martin Beach Lst [is] highly ferruginous, with a considerable amount of pyrite, and associated with green calcareous shales...The David's Stone Limestone...comprises two beds separated by slates..."
