Stratigraphy
Stratigraphy comments: Biharian, Middle/Late Lower Pleistocene, late Villafranchian. In the text it is dated to earlier than locality 2, on the evolutionary stage of Allophaiomys, but in the tables it is later. Both locality 2 and 8 date between 1.5-1.0Ma.
'This locality lied at the foot of the north-eastern wall of section XII of the quarry, about 50-60m north of Locality no. 2, in a portion of the quarry opened in November, 1970.' |
Lithology and environment
Lithology description: 'red clay' | |
Geology comments: The horizontal cave, about 100m long, is situated at an elevation of about 305m. At the very end of the hollow system, red clay dug out of the cleft communicating with the cave was found to contain the locality no. 8 of vertebrate fossils. |
