Stratigraphy
Stratigraphy comments: Lower part of sequence inferred to be Llandovery on basis of graptolites. Orthocerids said to come from near top of exposures, but no age call is made for these. Based on collections 27153 and 27154, the upper parts of sequence may well be Ludlow in age.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: sandy "shale"
Secondary lithology:micaceous "shale"
Includes fossils?Y
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: "sandy shale near the base...micaceous shale stratigraphically higher"
Environment:transition zone/lower shoreface Tectonic setting:passive margin
Geology comments: Some 500km N of Pridoli shoreline and 1000km N of Llandovery shoreline, according to paleogeographic map of ref. 7455. "The Silurian shale rests on gneiss and is in an area of Oligocene age exposures."
