Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | shelly/skeletal wackestone |
Secondary lithology: | glauconitic argillaceous packstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: "Often abundantly fossiliferous. The most common lithology is muddy calcareous wackestone in thin beds...Subordinate is calcareous, slightly glauconitic, thin-bedded muddy packstone..." | |
Environment: | marine indet. |
Geology comments: "[Preservation variable]; crowns rarely found; root systems common; bryzoans locally form thickets...Fauna resembles that of Haragan Edriocrinus Pygmaeocrinus Assoc. [PBDB coll. 26826]...larger coral fauna...some features of depositional environment suggest slightly more shoreward benthic position, i.e. BA 4. Enough differences can be noted from outcrop to outcrop within the Birdsong that it is likely that the unit will be divided into several communities with further study." |
