Geography
Country:Italy
Coordinates: 45.5° North, 11.6° East (view map)
Paleocoordinates:45.5° North, 11.6° East
Basis of coordinate:estimated from map
Geographic resolution:outcrop
Time
Period:Quaternary Epoch:Pleistocene
Stage:Late/Upper Pleistocene 10 m.y. bin:Cenozoic 6
Key time interval:Late/Upper Pleistocene
Age range of interval:0.12900 - 0.01170 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: The cave provided one radiocarbon date on an Ursus spelaeus rib, coming from the lower portion of Layer 1, which gave a conventional age of 29,001 ± 123 14C BP (33,597 to 32,844 cal. BP). Thus, the deposits in situ of the Buso Doppio del Broion Cave, below the upper reworked sediments, represent a time span including the end of MIS 3 and the onset of the LGM
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: "siliciclastic"
Lithology description: Layer 2 consists of lenses limited only to squares B7 and C7 and is formed by loamy aeolian sediment with scarce limestone stones.
Environment:cave
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection:general faunal/floral analysis
Collection method comments: Repository: Sezione di Scienze Preistoriche e Antropologiche of the Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici of the University of Ferrara
