Secondary lithology: lignite
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: It is a sequence of mainly dark coloured lignite layers with intercalating grey sandy clays of variable thickness. Th main grey layer has a thickness of about 3 m, situated at an altitude of 340 m. A underlying lignitic layer yielded numerous Hippopotamus specimens that probably belonged to the same individual (see Section 4.4). Due to the disturbance of the site the stratigraphic relationship and the number of the existing fossiliferous horizons are not clear. The most probable reconstruction based on field data includes two fossiliferous horizons at about 340 m and 330 m above sea level.
