Collection method comments: Boiled in a dilute solution of sodiumhexametaphosphate, a dispersant. Most samples disaggregated in this procedure, but a few contained highly felted peats that were subsequently treated in cold, 7% KOH solution to aid disaggregation. The organic fraction of each sample was then wet sieved on a 300 μm screen, and insect fossils were isolated from plant residues by the kerosene flotation method. |
