Stratigraphy
Geological group:Manda Formation:Kattachi
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Okinoshiman stage. Former Kattachi Formation (upper part of the Miike Formation of Iguchi, 2016) belongs to the uppermost CP13c nannofossil zone and lower CP14a, corresponding to the upper Lutetian (Iguchi, 2016). The site represents the lowermost sandstone of the Kattachi Formation (Karasawa, 1992), the "Kattachi fossil zone" of Kikuchi (1963).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:medium,coarse,glauconitic lithified sandstone
Lithology description: The uppermost Miike Formation (Kattachi Formation of Kikuchi 1963) is composed of sandstone, occasionally glauconitic, and shale/sandy shale, with coal and coaly shales. Coarse to medium-grained sandstone, according to Karasawa (1993). Coarse-grained glauconitic sandstone with greenish grey calcareous sandstone in Kuroda & Urata (1964). Appears lithified from illustrated decapod specimens.
Environment:shoreface
Geology comments: Lithology and association with coal suggests very shallow environment.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection:general faunal/floral analysis
