Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | gray,green,red argillaceous "limestone" |
Secondary lithology: | gray poorly lithified "shale" |
Lithology description: This unit consists of thin, interbedded limestones and shales, mainly gray to greenish gray in color, with some red coloration locally. The limestone beds are thin, highly argillaceous, with undulating bedding planes and a concretionary character locally. Fresh surfaces of the concretionary limestone are hard, gray, micritic to somewhat argillaceous, and incorporate bivalve steinkerns. The shale beds are locally very fissile, and bear minor amounts of carbon grains and tiny plant fragments, but lack the calcareous grit present in unit 51. | |
