Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | "siliciclastic" |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: The lower sequence consists of an alternation of sub-vertical, dark grey to green and red argillaceous pelagic beds, calcareous turbidites up to 50 cm thick, and minor, coarse-grained, siliciclastic turbidites. The stratigraphic interval exposed at the Monte Ceti quarry shows no indication of reversed strata as the pelagic deposits show typical fining-upward graded bedding and flute/groove casts at the base of the turbidites. The turbiditic deposits are also characterized by tubular Planolites-like feeding traces at the base, whereas rare Zoophycos traces are found on the interbedded, pelitic, hemipelagic deposits | |
Environment: | marginal marine indet. |
