Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:gray lithified calcareous "limestone"
Secondary lithology:black lithified calcareous "shale"
Environment:shallow subtidal indet.
Geology comments: A return to the shallow marine depositional conditions of the previous phase that culminated in the Abu Roash G Member marked the advent of the Turonian Abu Roash E and D Members (GPC, 1994). This is supported palynologically by the onset of a very high terrestrial/fresh-water influx (Fig. 5A, B), based on the presence of brackish/fresh-water algal bodies Botryococcus and Pediastrum deposited in a proximal shelf.
