It was synonymized subjectively with Heterodontidae by Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Plagiostomi by Owen (1859) and Leidy (1873); to Selachii by Woodward (1889) and Woodward (1916); to Plagiostomi by Weiler (1938); and to Elasmobranchii by Leriche (1942) and Sahni and Chhabra (1976).
