Crassatella melina was named by Conrad (1832).

It was recombined as Crassatellites melina by Glenn (1904); it was recombined as Eucrassatella melina by Richards and Harbison (1942); it was recombined as Marvacrassatella melina by Ward (1992) and Ward (1998).
