Taxonomy
Shinisauridae was named by Ahl (1930). It is extant. Its type is Shinisaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Conrad (2006).
It was reranked as the subfamily Shinisaurinae by McDowell and Bogert (1954); it was synonymized subjectively with Xenosauridae by Kuhn (1966), Seiffert (1975) and Alifanov (2000).
It was assigned to Xenosauridae by McDowell and Bogert (1954); to Platynota by Conrad (2006); and to Squamata by Böhme (2008).
