Amaurellina was named by Fischer (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi T Ol Sepkoski's reference number: 909].

It was assigned to Globulariinae by Woodring (1957); to Ampullospirinae by Marincovich (1977) and Squires (1987); to Ampullinidae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Naticidae by Turner (1938), Abbass (1967), Squires (1988) and Squires (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
