Taxonomy
Cardium kirkerensis was named by Clark (1918) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; California. DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; California]. Its type specimen is UCMP 11165, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cyclocardia (Cyclocardia) kirkerensis by Moore (1992); it was recombined as Ciliatocardium kirkerensis by Kafanov (2002); it was recombined as Acanthocardia (Acanthocardia) kirkerensis by Moore (1998) and Moore (2003).
