Taxonomy
Venus islandicus was named by Linnaeus (1767). It is extant.

It was recombined as Cyprina islandica by Wood (1850) and Wood (1882); it was recombined as Arctica islandicus by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Arctica islandica by Hendy et al. (2008).
