Taxonomy
Euscalpellum wheeleri was named by Zullo et al. (1992). Its type specimen is USNM 444306, an other, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is COC AF-18, which is in a Rupelian marine horizon in the Ashley Formation of South Carolina.
