Taxonomy
Turbo terebra was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type species of Turritella, Turritella (Turritella).

It was recombined as Turritella terebra by Lamarck (1799), Perrilliat (1972) and Harzhauser et al. (2009); it was recombined as Terebra (Terebra) terebra by Shuto (1974); it was recombined as Turritella (Turritella) terebra by Abbass (1962), van den Hoek Ostende et al. (2002) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
