Taxonomy
Anas albeola was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. Its type specimen is 1. It is the type species of Charitonetta.

It was recombined as Charitonetta albeola by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942) and Howard (1946); it was recombined as Bucephala albeola by Wetmore (1956), Wetmore (1962), Emslie (1992), Olson and Rasmussen (2001), Broughton (2004), Guthrie (2010) and Clements et al. (2017).
