Taxonomy
Gavia concinna was named by Wetmore (1940). Its type specimen is USNM 16160, a limb element (ulna), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sweetwater Canyon, which is in a Zanclean marine horizon in the Etchegoin Formation of California.
