Syllomus aegyptiacus was named by Lydekker (1899).

Synonyms
  • Chelonia marylandica was named by Collins and Lynn (1936). Its type specimen is USNM 13825, a shell (partial carapace), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cheapeake Beach, south, which is in a Langhian coastal horizon in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Syllomus aegyptiacus by Zug (2001).
  • Peritresius virginianus was named by Berry and Lynn (1936). Its type specimen is U. S. Nat. Mus. 13859, a partial skeleton (partial carapace and plastron plus several vertebrae and portions of right posterior limb and girdle), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Horsehead Cliffs, Zone 12-13, which is in a Langhian estuary/bay claystone in the Calvert Formation of Virginia.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Syllomus aegyptiacus by Zug (2001).
