Huroeaster was named by Valette (1915). It is not extant. Its type is Huroeaster stellatus. It was considered monophyletic by Breton (1992).

It was assigned to Goniasteridae by Valette (1915) and Breton (1992).

G. Breton 1992Small size. Form stellate. Arms of middle length, acute. Superomarginals in contact abactinaly since the third, opposite in the arm. Marginals few, relatively long, low, domed, with ornament of granule-pits. Granules small rounded. Pedicellariae pits of winged-type. Nine marginals between interradius and the tip of the arm.
