Taxonomy
Squatina occidentalis was named by Eastman (1904) [No type specimen number is listed by Eastman (1904).]. It is not extant. Its type locality is Plum Point, south, Zone 10, which is in a Burdigalian estuary/bay sandstone in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.
