Spirorbis was named by Daudin (1800) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Tubicola by Martin (1904); to Serpulimorpha by Sepkoski (2002); and to Serpulidae by Gall (1971), Wienrich (1999) and Kiessling (2009).
