It was assigned to Phocoenidae by Rice (1998); to Inioidea by Cozzuol (2010); and to Pontoporiidae by Muizon (1988), Rice (1998), Fordyce and de Muizon (2001), Lambert and Post (2005), Bianucci and Landini (2007), Foekens (2008) and Bianucci et al. (2011).
