Taxonomy
Enaliarctos mealsi was named by Mitchell and Tedford (1973). Its type specimen is LACM 4321, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pyramid Hill Sand Member grit zone, which is in a Chattian marine sandstone in the Jewett Formation of California. It is the type species of Enaliarctos.
