Florentinoameghinia mystica

Taxonomy
Florentinoameghinia mystica was named by Simpson (1932). Its type specimen is AMNH 28402, a set of teeth (P4-M1/), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oficina del Diablo, which is in a Casamayoran terrestrial horizon in the Casamayor Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Florentinoameghinia.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Domning (2001).

Diagnosis

G. G. Simpson 1932ole known species of the
genus. ?MlmeasureslOmm.inbothdimensions. The remains surely belonging to this indi- vidual were scattered through about a cubic
decimeter of matrix, which also contained the caniniformtoothmentionedabove. Inaddition toseveral skull fragments showing litle dis- tinctive character and without certain mutual contacts, itwas possible to piece together two sectionsoftherightmaxila,onecontainingtwo teth,theotherone. Thesetwofragmentsdo not indubitably contact, but were apparently contiguous either immediately or with one intermediate tooth.
The most anterior of the three preserved teethwasprecededbyadiastema. Nearlyfive
millimetersofthedentalborderarepreserved,
andthereisnoalveolus.Thetoothistriangular
andnearlyequidimensional,about10mm.long
andwide.Theprotoconeisofthecommon
crescentictype,andthereisnohypocone. The
metaconeissubconical,crestedantero-and
posteroexternally. The paracoite is broken away,butfromitsemplacementwasaboutequal
tothemetacone. Theprotoconuleisofmoderatesizeandimperfectlyseparated fromtheprotocone. Themetaconuleisnotpreserved,andmayhavebeensmaller. This tooth is probably either PI or P4.
