Taxonomy
Otolithus (Sciaenidarum) intermedius was named by Koken (1884). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Lutjanus intermedius by White (1956); it was recombined as Corvina intermedia by Frizzell and Dante (1965); it was recombined as Sciaena intermedius by Ebersole et al. (2019).
