Taxonomy
Torynobelodon loomisi was named by Barbour (1929). It is not extant. Its type locality is Torynobelodon loomisi Quarry, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in Nebraska. It is the type species of Torynobelodon.

It was recombined as Amebelodon loomisi by Gregory (1945); it was recombined as Platybelodon loomisi by Barbour (1932) and Shoshani and Tassy (1996).
