Taxonomy
Schaubeumys grangeri was named by Wood (1935) [genotype]. Its type locality is Potato Creek, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the "Lower Rosebud" Beds Formation of South Dakota.

It was recombined as Plesiosminthus grangeri by Wilson (1960), Sutton (1972), Storer (1975), Reynolds (1991) and Green (1992).
