Taxonomy
Megatylopus matthewi was named by Webb (1965). Its type specimen is UCM 31100, a partial skeleton (slightly crushed cranium and assorted skeletal fragments), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Coffee Ranch, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in Texas.
