Taxonomy
Mastodon raki was named by Frick (1933). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Elephant Butte Reservoir, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in the Palomas Formation of New Mexico.

It was recombined as Mammut raki by Tedford (1981) and Lucas and Morgan (1999).
