Arctocyon acrogenius

Taxonomy
Claenodon acrogenius was named by Gazin (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 20634, a mandible, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Saddle, which is in a Tiffanian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.

It was recombined as Mentoclaenodon acrogenius by Van Valen (1978); it was recombined as Arctocyon acrogenius by Kondrashov and Lucas (2004).

P. E. Kondrashov and S. G. Lucas 2004Differs from the A. ferox and A. corrugatus in its larger size (25 and 40 % respectively). The crowns of the upper teeth have a more square shape than in A. ferox. The cusps are low, and the paracone and metacone are close to each other. The p2 is greatly reduced or absent.
