R. Hoffstetter 1952Genre voisin de Megatherium. Le crane se caractérise par sa region occipitale haute et peu large, et par sa region nasale allongée et cylindrique. particulieremt étroite. Le profil sagittal est presque rectiligne. Les tubercules postorbitaires des frontaux sont a peine indiqués. L´arc zygomatique est tres bas et l´orbite est extraordinairement déplacée vers le bas. les séries dentaires sont davantage séparées que chez Megatherium et leur contour interne est nettement convexe. Le bord inférieur de la mandibule dessine un courbe réguliere, et la region alveolaire ne forme pas une puissante proéminence vers les bas; la symphyse ne se prolonge pas en arriere au de la verticale de la premiere dent; la branche montante est inclinée vers l' arriere, decouvrant presque entierement la dernier molaire, et le condyle occupe une position beaucoup plus postérieure que chez Megatherium. Les os des membres sont plutot allongés mais la main est au contraire relativement courte et large. L´extremité du radius est progressivement dilatée. Le carpe présente des caracteres spéciaux, en particulier une articulation bien développée entre l´unciforme et le métacarpien V; le métacarpien III est remarqueblement court et massif. Le fémur est presque plan, son grand trochanter n´est pas rejeté vers l´arriere et le bord externe de l´os est presque droit; la facette rotulienne, plus développée que chez Megatherium, s´etend médialement jusqu' au niveau du bord externe du condyle interne, en meme temps qu´elle se projette vers l´avant.
