Taxonomy

Leptoreodon was named by Wortman (1898). Its type is Leptoreodon marshi.

It was assigned to Leptomerycinae by Hay (1902); to Hypertragulidae by Peterson (1919); to Leptotragulinae by Gazin (1955) and Golz (1976); and to Protoceratidae by Wortman (1898), Carroll (1988), Prothero (1998) and Prothero and Ludtke (2007).

Camelomeryx was named by Scott (1898).

It was synonymized subjectively with Leptoreodon by Peterson (1919), Gazin (1955), Golz (1976), Prothero (1998) and Ludtke and Prothero (2004).
