Procamelus was named by Leidy (1858).

It was assigned to Miolabinae by Hay (1902); to Camelinae by Simpson (1945); to Camelidae by Leidy (1858), Leidy (1873) and Carroll (1988); to Camelini by Webb (1965), Honey et al. (1998) and May (2019); and to Lamini by Lynch et al. (2020).

Synonyms

Homocamelus was named by Leidy (1869).
