Laredochoerus was named by Westgate (1994). It is not extant. Its type is Laredochoerus edwardsi.
It was assigned to Leptochoerinae by Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Stucky (1998); and to Leptochoeridae by Westgate (1994) and Theodor et al. (2007).
