Euroxenomys was named by Samson and Radulesco (1973) [type European E. minutus]. It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Trogontherium by Mayhew (1978), Savage and Russell (1983), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Hugueney (1999).
It was assigned to Castoridae by Samson and Radulesco (1973), Sutton and Korth (1995), McKenna and Bell (1997), Korth (2001), Korth (2002) and Rybczynski (2007).
