Euhapsis was named by Peterson (1905). Its type is Euhapsis platyceps. It was considered monophyletic by Rybczynski (2007).

It was assigned to Castoridae by Peterson (1905) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Palaeocastorinae by Rybczynski (2007).
