Taxonomy
Larus robustus was named by Shufeldt (1891). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Silver Lake, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Oregon.

It was recombined as Larus (Larus) robustus by Wetmore (1940).
