Taxonomy
Quercypodargus olsoni was named by Mourer-Chauviré (1989) [Tarsométatarse de forme courte et trapue, proche de celui du genre actuel Podargus. Hypotarse comportant trois crêtes, un c:anal et une gouttiere. Crêtes médiane et interne soudées en arriere, crête externe libre. Face postérieure de Ia diaphyse apiatie. Trochlée médiane large et courte. Trochlée interne de même longueur que Ia trochlée médiane, trochlée externe un peu plus courte.]. Its type specimen is MNHN QU 15876, a limb element (right tarsometatarsus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Phosphorites du Quercy (old collections - late Eocene), which is in an Eocene karst phosphorite in the Quercy Phosphorites Formation of France.
