Lampanyctus resplendens was named by Richardson (1845). It is extant.

It was recombined as Notoscopelus resplendens by Fitch (1969), Schwarzhans (1980), Brzobohaty and Nolf (1996), Fierstine et al. (2012) and Schwarzhans (2019).
